Hindu Meditation

hindu meditationHindu Meditation can be best defined as the condition of calm consideration at the current situation, or a condition when the human mind is relaxed and free of all feelings and thoughts. The goal of Hindu Meditation is the change of the attitudes and religious enlightenment.  The various types of Hindu meditation are differentiated according to its focus. Basically there are two types of meditation namely, mindfulness meditation and the concentrative meditation. The mindfulness meditation focuses on the perception and the experience whereas the concentrative meditation is concerned with the thoughtfulness on a pre selected entity.

Sometimes described as the journey of the individual to his deeper part, the art of Hindu meditation can be both pleasing and energizing. On entering the calm, relaxed and the deeper part of one’s being, the energy and strength within the body is tapped. This energy is so strong that the mediator is able to sustain for the whole day and prevents the tranquil centre from being troubled. The person who has been tapped with the inner strength caused by Hindu meditation is not touched by doubt, fear and other troubles.

The various types of Hindu Meditation covered within Yoga include:

  1. RajaYoga,
  2. Japa Yoga,
  3. Vedanta and Surat Shabd Yoga.

Vedanta or the Zenith of Knowledge is concerned with the nature and realities associated with it. A set of rational scriptures known as the Upanishads is the source inspiration for the study of Vedanta.  The Raja Yoga (also called the Ashtanga Yoga) is majorly concerned with the enlightenment of the mind through the process of meditation.  The goal of this type of Yoga is to achieve freedom from the reality. Surat Shabd or the essence of Divine looks for the complete union with the heavenly world. This heavenly energy is thought to be the first force that was personified as sound and sent out at the beginning of the world.  Japa Yoga is the method of meditation involving the repetition of the Divine name or a mantra. This form of Hindu mediation is performed with the classic cross legged position.

Hinduism has been the source of meditation for more than five thousand years now. The Hindu meditation involves several types of components and is considered to be the universal method for the union of soul with the divine force and the journey into the deeper self. The Hindu meditation has been derived from the Bhagvad Gita.
